And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.  I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. - 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 NIV

Paul's lesson on faith in God may have been illustrated this weekend through sports. Though we often trivalize the move of God through various sporting events, there are lessons we learn about life, humanity and faith through simple human activity.

As a 21 point underdog, with over 80 new players, facing the 17th ranked team in the nation on the road before a hostile crowd, while many experts anticapted a diasater; The Colorado Buffaloes football team did the unthinkable by achieving victory over TCU on national t.v.

Beyond all the social, political and econmic layers of this story, is a most prominent feature: Belief.  The players and coaches demonstrated faith. Some demonstrated faith in God and some also demonstrated faith in themselves. I think these two are not neccessarily mutally exclusive. To have faith in God is also to have faith in what God can do through you.

Like David facing Goliath or Gideon facing the Midanites, we too will face great challenges in this life. How will we respond? Remember Paul's words, "... with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power"

The impossible becomes possible when you believe in God and believe in what God can do through you.
