Follow The Leader - Hebrews 13:17

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. - Hebrews 13:17 ESV

 

Do you remember the game we played as children called "Follow the Leader"? It was simple, inexpensive game that taught us invaluable lessons on leadership and on how to become a good follower.

 

Here are the rules to the game:

1. One child is chosen to be the leader.
2. The rest of the children line up behind the leader.
3. They must copy all the actions and movements of the leader (run when the leader runs, do       jumping jacks, turn around and take 3 steps forward, etc.)
4. Anyone who does not successfully copy a movement is out.
5. The last child still following at the end is the leader in the next round.

 

That was a game we played as children. Now that we have matured, it's important to learn how to follow the leader in our Christian discipleship. Jesus is our primary leader, and He deserves our love and loyalty as we follow in his footsteps. Our aim is to copy or model our behavior and values after those that Jesus demonstrated.

 

We also learn how to follow the leaders that God has given to the church. Our spiritual leaders need our prayers and support in following them as they are led by the Lord.

 

The most important part of the game we played as children was the way the game ended. The one who followed the best became the next leader of the group! We should strive to be good followers and good supporters of our leaders.

 

Our turn may be right around the corner.
