When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. - 1 Corinthians 13:11
The call to Christian discipleship includes many challenges in this life and none are more prominent than our need to mature and develop. We need to worship within community and we need to pray on a regular basis and we also need the warmth of Christian fellowship, But more significantly is our need to demonstrate Christian maturity in both our actions and our attitude. In simpler terms, we all need to grow up as Christians.
The traits and signs of immaturity are easily identified:
1. Not Taking Responsibility For Your Actions
2. Needing To Be The Center Of Attention
3. Not Admitting You're Wrong
4. Being Unaware Of How You Affect Others
5. Name-Calling Others
6. Not Taking Criticism Well
The Apostle Paul testifies that , "When I became a man, I gave up childish ways." This is our encouragement to grow up. Let us engage in the spiritual disciplines of prayer, fasting, solitude, and bible reading so that we may mature in our walk with God and with others.
Let's commit to growing up.
Prayer
Sovereign Lord, this life is a wonderful opportunity to experience Your love and enjoy You forever. Do not allow me to become complacent but let me have a desire to grow in Your love and grace. Fill my life with the joy of Your Spirit and let me grow tall and strong in You. Father, My life is a journey full of stumbling blocks and challenges. With each hurdle, there is growth. With each setback, a valuable lesson. I ask that You give me the wisdom and presence of mind to learn from my mistakes and pitfalls. Help me to approach these things with maturity, so that I can be closer to You. In Jesus name Amen.
