leadership

At that time I said to you, “You are too heavy a burden for me to carry alone. The Lord your God has increased your numbers so that today you are as numerous as the stars in the sky. May the Lord, the God of your ancestors, increase you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised! But how can I bear your problems and your burdens and your disputes all by myself? Choose some wise, understanding and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will set them over you.”

Deuteronomy 1:9-13 NIV

“The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.”

Leadership characterized as "Good" and "Godly" is sacrificial. The world is in need of "Good" and "Godly" leaders. But leadership is not meant to burdensome and singular. The good leader is the one who is willing to invest himself in those he leads. The good leader looks for potential leaders to mentor. A good leader embraces his own fragility and limitations.

Moses shares this in the Deuteronomy One text. He learned this himself from someone else, Jethro. Every good leader is always learning. Moses appoints others to assist him in the leadership of the people. Those he chose had already demonstrated wisdom, understanding and were greatly respected. Moses gave these men various assignments, but if you continue to read Deuteronomy 1, you will discover that without obedience to God... even the best plans fail.

Let us pray for all leaders.
