But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. - James 4:6-10 ESV
Our culture is characterized by war, violence and division. But there are still people who serve as bright lights in a dark world. These are people who love God and love others. These are people who have a humble attitude and generously serve others without any regard for applause, accolade or attention.
Read and reflect upon the biblical passage of James , Chapter four verses one through ten. He reminds us that God gives grace to those that are humble. Resist the devil and his attempt to derail and distract you. The Enemy only wants to enlarge your ego, and lead you down a dangerous path of unbridled ambition and pride.
We should serve God and others with humility. To serve, minister and lead is a privilege extended to us by God. We should be grateful, sincere and humble. The world and the church would be better because of it.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we ask for Your help to walk humbly with our brothers and sisters. It is all too easy for us to fall prey to our flesh and to walk in arrogance, but pride causes division and we desire peace. Lord, help us to humble ourselves in order that we do not let the lies of the enemy overtake us, rather, help us to count ourselves as equals with one another. It is then that we will stop attempting to be better than others, and we can love their hearts for the unique person You made them to be. Help us to value one another in this humble spirit so that we may live to the fullest.
In Jesus name, Amen
