Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.- Proverbs 21:23 ESV
How do you define "Christian Maturity"?
In the epistle of James - Chapter 3, the tongue is presented as a measure of maturity. According to James, who was the brother of Jesus, the most difficult member of our body to keep in check is the tongue. If we can learn to tame the tongue we can control the other parts of our body as well.
Everyone seems to be "on edge". Sensitivity levels are high and conflict breaks out at the smallest of disagreements. Things escalate quickly from vile words to violent actions. We are losing control of ourselves daily. Our tweets, texts and emails are becoming increasingly toxic.
Each one of us should consider our own words and deeds in the light of scripture. Humility and remorse often produce repentance and forgiveness. We need to overcome hate speech with the language of love.
It starts with you.
