Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not be served—and then to give away his life in exchange for the many who are held hostage.”
- Matthew 20:27-28 (MSG)
The other day a member of our church, who I knew had been experiencing health challenges personally and within her family, demonstrated a remarkably servant spirit. She simply purchased a large number of grocery items and brought them to the church as an offering towards our church Thanksgiving giveaway for needy persons. Now that may seem rather ordinary,
But I want you to consider that within our culture today is a growing pessimism and cynicism towards any positive movement of faith, hope and love. This member illustrated what it means to serve.
As we criticize churches, pastors and people of faith, we might want to look at ourselves and consider ways that we can serve others. God has not called us to be stars or celebrities...He has called us to simply serve.
Prayer
God, open our heart and eyes to so that we can receive your message of faith, hope and love. Motivate us to serve others without regard for our personal glory or reward. Thank you for serving us through your Son Jesus Christ. Amen
