The amazing and the extraordinary are experienced when together we find ourselves in the presence of Jesus. Church, Clergy and Community all experience revival when together they work under the healing wings of the Sun of Righteousness. Nothing significant is recorded as happening within the biblical record that does not involve togetherness ….togetherness with others and more importantly togetherness with God.
The man in the Luke five story, that is without mobility is healed at the touch of Jesus and the togetherness demonstrated by friends who bring him to Jesus. It is not only the sick man's faith that makes him well, but the faith of his friends. We all need friends full of faith.
Perhaps the words of John Donne's poem , have a way of reminding us of the interconnectedness of humanity. We are indeed formed for fellowship and made for ministry.
No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;….. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
The one who is lying on the bed in Luke five, is invited to get up and walk. And He does so! Because of the friends, people and community
They had One Mission, One Commitment and One Faith....and Jesus did the rest!
