I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live
-Deuteronomy 30:19 ESV
Choices. Decisions. They have consequences that we can hardly imagine both in the present and the future. Usually it is not until after we have made them, that we realize the importance of both patience and wisdom.
I recently came across what I consider to a helpful commentary on the personal impact of choices we make each day. Pastor Brandon Cox (Biblical Leadership) offers a few tips that will encourage all of us toward making better choices as we walk with God and others.
1. We can choose confidence in spite of our circumstances. We are reminded in scripture and in life that if God be for us, who can be against us? Joy runs deeper than happiness and it endures in spite of everything else.
2. We can choose to be positive in spite of criticism. No one is perfect or flawless, we are all human. Embrace your humanity and live humbly with God and others. Press on!
3. We can be hopeful when nothing seems certain. The audacity of Hope is based on the resurrection of Jesus! God has the last word. Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness!
4. We can choose to be content with Christ alone. The One who feeds 5,000 and promises them "Bread of life" that will satisfy their cravings forever, is the same One who promises to each of us life more abundantly. Jesus is enough.
Each day blessings or curses, joy or misery, bondage or freedom, life or death choices are presented to each of us...
So choose wisely.
Prayer
Lord, I seek the Your direction and guidance. There are so many options and choices before me. Thank you for leaving your Word to instruct me in your ways. Please remind me to always look to you first for guidance when my heart is torn and troubled with confusion. Teach me to trust you more. Forgive me when I doubt and draw me closer every day to your Spirit living in me. In Jesus name, Amen
