Scripture Reading:
I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave - Revelation 1:18 NLT
This morning we celebrate the greatest turnaround in human history. Jesus was dead—not figuratively, not metaphorically, but literally. Buried in a borrowed tomb, sealed behind a stone, guarded by soldiers. But death couldn't hold Him. The grave couldn’t contain Him. And evil couldn’t defeat Him.
Revelation 1:18 reminds us that the risen Christ now holds the keys—to hell, to death, and to every system designed to keep us bound. That means the things that used to lock us down—racism, poverty, violence, generational trauma—no longer have the final say.
In our urban communities, we face real challenges. Gun violence on our streets. Schools underfunded. Voices silenced. Opportunities stolen. But because He lives, we don’t live in fear—we live in faith. Jesus didn’t just rise so we could shout on Sunday—He rose so we could live in victory on Monday.
Today, we don’t just remember the empty tomb—we rise from the grave to greater.
Old Gospel Song: “I Know It Was the Blood” (Traditional)
⯑ “I know it was the blood, I know it was the blood, I know it was the blood for me. One day when I was lost, He died upon the cross, and I know it was the blood for me.” ⯑
That blood still speaks. It speaks life over our neighborhoods. It speaks freedom over our families. It speaks justice in the face of oppression.
Three Things We Should Do Today:
A Prayer on Easter Sunday
Risen Savior, today we thank You for the victory that shook the grave. Thank You, Jesus, for going down so we could come up. Lord, we’ve seen the evil in our world, we’ve felt the sting of injustice, but today we declare—You have the keys! You have the power! Help us to walk in that power. Help us rise above every system that told us we couldn’t. Let this church, this community, this city, see resurrection not just in our words, but in our works. May our lives testify that You are alive, forevermore. In Your powerful, liberating name we pray, In Jesus name! —Amen.
