Scripture: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” — John 13:34
In the upper room, Jesus kneels and washes the feet of His disciples—even Judas. He breaks bread and shares wine, knowing that suffering and betrayal are only hours away. Yet He chooses love, servanthood, and communion.
Reflection:
In the face of injustice, Jesus offers love. He serves even those who will fail Him. In the African American experience, we know what it means to be betrayed by systems and even by those close to us. But the command to love is not weakness—it is strength, rooted in God’s power to overcome evil with good. The Black Church has always held tightly to love that is active, liberating, and holy.
Two Things to Do Today:
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You washed the feet of even Your betrayer. Teach us to love like that—to serve with grace, to endure injustice without becoming bitter, and to hold fast to Your command to love one another. May we be known by our love. Amen.
