Scripture:
“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.” — Mark 12:17
Jesus answers the Pharisees’ trap with holy wisdom. He refuses to be manipulated, teaching that our highest allegiance belongs to God.
Reflection:
As African Americans, we’ve long lived in a nation that demanded our labor but denied our humanity. Yet like Jesus, our ancestors held their identity in God, not in what Caesar demanded. In schools, pulpits, protests, and prayers, they resisted with wisdom and perseverance.
Two Things to Do Today:
Prayer:
Lord, help us live with discernment and courage. May we honor You above all powers, and walk in wisdom like Christ, refusing to be silenced or swayed. In Jesus name, Amen.
