In Christ’s family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew, slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ. Also, since you are Christ’s family, then you are Abraham’s famous “descendant,” heirs according to the covenant promises.- Galatians 3:28-29 (The Message Bible)
We tend to emphasize our differences. There is war and division in every part of the world, often driven by our tendency to devalue people who are different from ourselves. We want people to be like us or at least "like" what we "like". This is grounded in the selfish desires of the flesh.
God created us in His image, with different personalities, preferences and potentials. We are gifted and talented in different areas and capacities. It is a tribute to the creative imagination of our God! In spite of all our inadequacies, God still calls us and uses us to His own Glory!
The key to contentment in life is to discern God's call & commission in your life and to acknowledge that you aren't the only one "Called".
Learn to respect, acknowledge and affirm the gifts and callings and diversity of people around you. God is using all sorts of people!
A Benediction on Diversity
May the God who created a world of diversity and vibrancy, go with us as we embrace life in all its fullness. May the Son who teaches us to care for stranger and foreigners, go with us as we try to be good neighbors in our communities. May the Spirit who breaks down our barriers and celebrates community, go with us as we find the courage to create a place of welcome for all. In Jesus name , we pray. Amen
