  • Shirley Davis
    Business Manager

    Shirley Davis serves as the Business Manager for Friendship Baptist Church. She is a native of Mississippi, where she gave her life to Christ, and was baptized at the age of 13. She believes that God has a purpose and plan for each of our lives; therefore, one of her favorite scriptures is Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future".

    Shirley has over 20 years experience/service in the accounting profession. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), both from Jackson State University. Additionally, she received her Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) in Higher Ed. Administration from the University of Missouri - Kansas City, where she also completed all coursework toward a doctorate degree in Ed. Administration.

    Shirley is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She is married to Kenneth Davis and they are the proud parents of two sons.

  • Gheia Turk
    Pastor's Secretary

    Gheia Turk serves as the Secretary to Pastor James A. Terrance Jr.  Gheia grew up in Greenwood Baptist Church and has been a member Friendship Baptist Church for 12 years.  She attended Missouri Western College and was employed by Commerce Bank and Bannister Bank and Trust after college.   Over the years, Gheia served in many capacities, including Junior Matron’s Leader, Marriage Ministry Coordinator, Social Media Administrator, assisted with various ministries and other administrative work as needed. Gheia is a leader with great passion and a growing commitment to Christ. 


    Gheia is married to Alan Turk and they are the parents of six chilldren. Gheia lives her life knowing and living by Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." 

  • Dawnn O'Bannon
    Church Secretary

    Dawnn C. O'Bannon has serves as the Church Secretary for the past 4 years providing administrative support to church ministries and the congregation. Blessed with a beautiful smile and a warm personality she offers assistance to the many ministries of Friendship Baptist Church.  Her pride and joy are her 3 beautiful children; being a mother is her greatest achievement.  She has a Bachelors of Art Degree in English from Avila University, and is actively pursuing her Masters of Art Degree in Human Resources Management.

  • Valera Jefferson
    Church Clerk

    Valera Jefferson has served as the Church Clerk for Friendship Baptist Church since 2009mand has been a member for twenty-one years. She is a Sumner High Alum, a graduate of the University of Kansas earning a B. S. in Education and a Masters in Curriculum Administration and  University Missouri Kansas City's completion of Language Arts Doctoral Hours.  Her life experiences include working 40 years as Public School Educator (retired), singing in the Ebony Chorale, being active in AKA Sorority, NAACP, P M Interlude Social/Civic Club, Sumner Alumni, YMCA and Neighborhood Association. She is the proud mother of one son.

  • Alonzo Tigner
    Chairman Deacons Ministry

    Since joining Friendship in 1985 Alonzo has served in a variety of ministries. Prior to serving as the Chairman of the Deacon Board, Alonzo was a choir member, young adult usher, driver in the bus ministry, vice chairman of the deacon board and served on the last pastoral search committee.


    In addition to serving as chairman, Alonzo remains active in Sunday school, the youth ministry teaching the teens on assigned Sundays and Wednesday evening. Alonzo has been a long time member of FBC and cherishes the rich history, is excited about its present, and looks forward to its future serving the community.


    Alonzo and his wife Rhonda married in Friendship in 1992 and have two beautiful daughters Alexis and Lauren.


  • Anita Mauldin
    Chairman of Trustee Ministry

    Anita Mauldin serves as the first female Chairman of the Trustee Ministry for Friendship Baptist Church. She is a native of Earle, Arkansas and raised by her grandparents Rev. and Mrs. W. S. Booker, Anita joined the Friendship family in 1973 under Rev. I. H. Henderson, Jr.  During this time she served as teacher in the Young Adult Sunday School and Junior High Sunday School Departments, Superintendent in the Junior High Sunday School for 28 years, participated in the Voices of Praise and Chancel Choir, and Co-Chairman of Trustees.  One of her favorite sayings is "She who kneels before God can stand before anyone" 


    Anita is a retired educator with 38 years of experience in Middle and High School and has served in many leadership roles: Chairman of Social Studies Department, Chairman of Faculty Advisory Committee, a member of the Superintendent's Round Table and Union Representative.


    She attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and continued her education at Avila College where she received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science and a Master Degree in Arts of Education.


    Anita believes that family is very important. She has three siblings Catherine, Willie and Gwendolyn, and is the proud mother of one son James, Sr. (decease), grandmother of two grandsons James Jr. and Jalen. 

  • Nina Davis
    Finance Chairman

    Nina is a lifelong resident of Kansas City, MO.  She spent summers in Muskogee, OK and was baptized there, and joined Friendship by letter at the age of eight (8).


    Nina has 19 years of service with the federal government with various roles including administrative, budget, finance and internal auditing.  She has an undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a graduate degree from Webster University.


    With over 15 years of experience in the Finance ministry consisting of entering contribution envelopes, backup to Financial Secretary processing payroll and ministry requisitions, and a weekly counter that reconciles tithes/offering for bank deposits.   Today Nina continues her service in Friendship Baptist Church as the Finance Chairperson.

  • Minister Schlyon Atkins
    Clergy Enrichment Ministry Leader

    Schlyon Atkins is a native of Nashville, Tennessee.  She moved to Kansas City, Missouri in her early teenage years and united with Friendship Baptist Church.  Minister Atkins was baptized by her grandfather, the late Rev. Dr. Isaiah H. Henderson, Jr.  She accepted and announced her Call to Ministry and on September 9, 2012, she was licensed by Rev. James A. Terrance, Jr.


    Minister Atkins received a B.S. and M.A. Degree in Communication Disorders from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  She has been employed with Ability KC as a Speech-Language Pathologist for 25 years. 


    As a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church, Minister Atkins has had the privilege of being a delegate of State and National Congresses, as well as serving on numerous committees.  Spiritual growth and development are major priorities in her life.  This passion is reflected through her teaching of youth and women. 


    Minister Atkins realizes that from the very beginning God’s hand has been on her.  Trusting in the Lord with all her heart has allowed Minister Atkins to live a consistent and committed life of service to Christ and others.     

  • Minister Robert Brooks
    Minister of Youth & Children's Ministries

    Robert Brooks and his family have been members of Friendship Baptist Church since 2008. He received his calling to the ministry in 2011 and was licensed in March 2015. Rev. Brooks serves as the Youth Minister where he has a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people. He has served in various other ministries prior to joining the youth department.


    Minister Brooks is married to Rosalyne and together they have two wonderful daughters, Ravyn and Rakayla. Minister Brooks and his wife are successful entrepreneurs of a Real Estate Investment Firm and Beauty Salon in the Greater Kansas City area for over 25 years. Together, they are very active in the community and are members of various chamber organizations and professional affiliations.


    Minister Brooks and his family have committed their lives to serving others, trusting in, and depending on the goodness and grace of GOD while sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ!!!

  • Minister Kevin Wills
    Brotherhood Ministry Leader

    Kevin is a native of Kansas City, Kansas, where he resides for the last 54 years. He is a graduate from Washington High school in 1982. He attended Tarkio Business College in 1985 with Certificate in Principles of Banking and Savings. He currently attends Western Baptist Seminary in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Pastoral Theology. His Christian experience began in 1999 where He was Introduced to Baptist Polity, salvation and Baptism for the first time He was Ordained as a Deacon of First Baptist Church of KCKs, in 2001 under the direction of Dr. Ellis Robinson Sr. Pastor.


     He became a member of The Friendship Baptist Church in 2005, He accepted His call to Ministry under Sr. Pastor James A. Terrance, licensed to preach the Gospel message in 2011. His Ministry journey involves, singing with the Male Chorus, Bus Ministry, Laymen President for Kaw Valley District, and New Era District, Greeters Ministry, Evangelism Coordinator, Armor Bearer to the Pastor, Sunday School Teacher, Assistant coordinator in New Members Ministry He currently serves as the Coordinator for the Men’s Ministry, Assistant to the Pastor, and position of Worship Leader for the Ministerial Staff and the Friendship Baptist Church a Congregation of Jesus Christ.

  • Minister Reginald Mitchell
    Young Adult Ministry Leader

    Reverend Reginald Mitchell is a native of Kansas City Mo. He has earned a bachelors degree from Columbia College and a Masters of Divinity from Central Baptist Theological Seminary. Reggie was licensed in 2004 and ordained in 2012 under Pastor James A. Terrance Jr. He has attended additional training including certification from the E.K. Bailey Expository Preaching Conference.


    Reggie is privileged to minister to Young Adults at Friendship Baptist Church. iConnect (Young Adult Ministry) has a vision to CONNECT emerging and diverse adults in order that their faith may grow in Christ.  Reggie is happily married to his wife Mallory and is the proud father of Reggie Jr.  He enjoys competitive sports, spending time with family, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and strives for ultimately fulfilling the call of God on his life.  

  • Minister Margie Wiley
    Cancer Support Ministry Leader

    Rev. Wiley Margie was born on March 16, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri to Kermit and Hester Wiley.  She is number 5 of 13 children.  Rev. Wiley has 3 sons, 2 granddaughters and 2 grandsons. 


    Rev. Wiley graduated from Paseo High School in 1968.   She received a paralegal certificate in 1978 from Rockhurst University.   She also obtained a BA degree in Human Relations from Mid America Nazarene University in 1992.  She also received a BA degree from the Emmanuel Baptist Church Bible School of Missionaries and Evangelism.  Rev. Wiley worked for 3 prestigious Kansas City law firms and also worked as a Senior Legal Analyst for 22 years with Sprint/CenturyLink.. 


    Rev. Wiley received her call to preach in 1998 while battling breast cancer.  She was ordained on December 31, 2001.  She has been a member of Friendship Baptist Church since April 2013.  She always says that the Lord has healed her and is keeping her alive.  Rev. Wiley loves the Lord and thanks God every day for how far He has brought her.  

  • Minister Linda R. Milan
    Minister of Health and Wellness

    Joining the staff of Friendship Baptist Church as an Associate Minister in August 2009, Minister Milan graduated from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in May of the same year with a Master’s of Divinity Degree. Minister Milan serves as the Minister of Health and Wellness, which encompasses Love Outreach, (our ministry for the Widows and Widowers} and hosts a yearly workshop dealing with Mental Health, Grief Issues &Concerns.


    Minister Milan says “it was not until late in life that I sensed God’s call into ministry. After a much prolonged period that calling became clear to me.  I am convinced that God has given me the desire and gifts to serve Him with a passion for God’s people through ministry, social justice issues, pastoral care, and creating healthy congregations. I am committed to helping others experience His profound love, and to nurturing their spiritual growth.


    Minister Milan was born in Kansas City, Kansas and is the mother of two sons and five grandchildren.

  • Minister Delbert Kerr
    Minister of Congregational Care & Visitation
    Delbert Kerr was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He has been a member of Friendship Baptist Church for seven years. It brings Delbert great joy to see how God’s spirit is moving in the heart of our City. Delbert is called to chaplaincy and has been endorsed by the National Baptist Church as a chaplain in health care. He currently serves as a hospice chaplain in Independence, Missouri, specializing in pastoral care and grief counseling. 

    Delbert is married to Joy Kerr. He graduated from Nazarene Theological Seminary with an M.Div. with a emphasis in chaplaincy. 

  • Beverly Smith
    Minister of Evangelism and Outreach.

    Beverly Smith a native of Shreveport Louisiana has resided in Kansas City, KS since August 1977. She accepted Christ at an early age and was Baptized at the age of 5 at Springhill Baptist Church by the late Rev R.S. Smith in Shreveport LA. Upon hearing the voice of God answered the call to Preach the Gospel and united with Friendship Baptist Church June 9, 2013. Minister Smith preached her initial sermon and were licensed May 17, 2015.

    Minister Smith served previously as Ministry Leader for Social Justice Ministry and currently serves as Evangelism Ministry Leader where her passion for Community Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion is to serve those that are marginalized, disenfranchised by economic and social injustice, to exalt and encourage.

    She has been in Mortgage Lending over 23 years and currently employed with Capitol Federal Savings as Community Development Specialist. Minister Smith is the Mother of four children, one son, three daughters and 10 grandchildren five boys and five girls.

    Minister Smith gives God all the Glory and Praise for the Things he has done.

  • Minister Virgil and Lachelle White
    Marriage Enrichment Ministry Leaders
    Minister Virgil and Lachelle serve as the Marraige Enrichment servant leaders. Minister Virgil joined the Friendship family in 2006. In 2009 Virgil and Lachelle began the journey of life as husband and wife. Since that time both have been involved in ministries working with the youth, nursery, hope ministry, recreation and marriage ministry. 
    Virgil hails from Cincinnati, OH where he received his high school deplomia. Virgil continued his education at Morehead State University to receive his bachelor's degree in English with a minor in Speech Communications. He used this education to work in the youth development field at Genesis Scool as well as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater KC. He then moved to the electric industry’s where he completed the lineman apprenticeship during the 10 years of power linework at KCP&L. He currently serves as an Energy Consultant for KCP&L. 
    Lachelle is born and raised in Kansas City, KS were she graduated from Washington High school. She continued her education and received her bachelors degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Kansas City Missouri. She also received her Masters in Accounting and Financial Management. Lachelle currently serves as a product support Technical Advisor. 
    Virgil and Lachelle are parents to four wonderful children; Darius, Emmanuel, Virgil IV and Victoria. The family stands on God’s Word for guidance, strength and hope in all situations always remembering to “Never let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Tie them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will find favor and high regard in the sight of God and man.”

  • Steve Scott
    Minister of Music

    Steve Scott serves as the Director of Church Music for the Friendship Baptist Church. He is an accomplished pianist/organist and music teacher in the greater Kansas City area.  Steve received his post-secondary education from the University of Missouri in Kansas City and Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas.  He specializes in playing and teaching gospel music, but is also very well versed in many other genres of music.  Steve has accompanied and traveled with many national gospel artists.


    For the past 38 years, Mr. Scott has been playing and serving in leadership roles in music ministry with 25 of those years in the role of Minister of Music for local congregations.  As the owner of a school of music in Kansas City, Kansas  since 1992, he has trained well over 1000 music students with skills and abilities to become active ministers of music or musicians for their congregation.  


    In his spare time, Mr. Keys, a nickname he has earned for his amazing talent on the piano, silently enjoys being a secret food critic of locally owned ethnic restaurants.  He enjoys tasting their diverse flavors and learning about their generations of traditions in cooking.  This allows his palate and heart to erase the divisions of the world enjoying each culture one bite at a time. 

  • Deborah Hogan
    Church Wedding Coordinator

    Deborah Hogan serves as the Wedding Coordinator for Friendship Baptist Church.  She is the Human Resources Manager for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), Kansas City.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Kansas City Boys Choir and the Kansas City Girls Choir.  She has served as Youth Mission Director and Youth Fellowship Director for New Era District Baptist Association, Youth Director Greenwood Baptist Church, Area One Young People Director for the Baptist State Convention of Missouri, and the Past President for the Black Achievers Society of Greater Kansas City.  She is also a community youth mentor for a cross-cultural group of developing young college students and graduates. 


    Deborah has two daughters Gheia and Tia and eight grandchildren. Her steadfast faith and professional experience has uniquely equipped her t be a blessing to others.  She gives God the glory in all of her opportunities and successes.

  • Diane Dixon
    Media Director

    Diane Dixon has been a member of the Friendship Baptist Church for 60 years, currently serving as the Director of Media Ministry. She accepted Christ at an early age and participated in various ministries throughout her youth. Upon graduating from Paseo High School she attended and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio & TV Production. After college Diane worked for KMBC-TV Channel 9 news station, where she faithfully served as a Television Engineer for 39 years.


    Throughout her membership at Friendship, Diane has been a member of the Young Adult, Adult and Vision Choirs, Usher Board, Women’s Missionary Union (Deborah Circle), Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, as well as a Sunday School teacher in the Senior High Department. She served on the Pastoral Search Committee in 2003.


    Diane serves on the Deaconess Board, offering spiritual guidance and prayer as needed to her peers and young women in and out of the church whenever she is asked. Diane has also mentored several youth in the church through the Media Ministry and has supported them in their high school and post high school endeavors. Diane strives to live by her motto, which is: ‘As long as I am needed, I will serve God in my church whenever and wherever I am asked.’


    Diane is married to Ermon “Joe” Dixon and together they raised their daughter, Carla in the church. Diane has been blessed with two grandchildren, Xavier and Lyric who are also continuing the family legacy of those before her by obtaining their Christian education here at Friendship Baptist Church. Diane is also the faithful caregiver of her 98 year old mother, Viola G. Howard.

  • Cherise Pickett
    Website Administrator

    Cherise Pickett is a native of Leesville, Louisiana.  She was raised in California and later moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 2007 and united with Friendship Baptist Church. 


    Cherise received a B.S. Degree in Communications from California State University in Sacramento, California.  She has attended additional training in graphic arts and design.


    As a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church, Cherise has had the privilege of serving as the church secretary and events coordinator, a Sunday school teacher for our upper elementary students, the youth council, Sanctuary Choir, as well as serving on numerous committees.  She desires to live a life that is pleasing to God holding fast to Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”


    Cherise is happily married to Joe Pickett and is the proud mother of an amazing daughter, Aaliyah.

  • Linda Brooks
    Director of Membership Services

    Linda Brooks serves as the Director of Membership Services and has worked on the committee since the inception  of this team in 2007. Linda  has been a member of Friendship Baptist Church for over 45 years. Linda has worked in many areas  of our congregation as Director of the Nursery Department, Board member of the Summer Academy, team member of the Women's'  conference and many other organizations and ministries.


    Linda has worked professionally  as an Account Manager  for over 30 years with numerous corporations in the Kansas City area. She has a Bachelors degree in Psychology from Avila University.

    Linda is married to Steve Brooks and they have two daughters Sydney and Shelby.

  • Charleszetta Shelby
    Membership Services

    Charleszetta Pierce Shelby was born to Deacon Charles O. and the late Deaconess Margie L. Pierce in Kansas City KS.  She is the oldest of eight siblings.  Her family was rooted in the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in KCK, Pastored by the late Rev.  Anderson Douglas Banks, Sr.  and was baptized by him and her father on Easter Sunday morning at the age of 8 years old.


    Upon moving to the Missouri, the family membership changed to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where she has been an active member over 55 years.  Christian Education was earned through study in Kaw Valley District and Missionary Baptist Congress/Convention of Kansas; New Era District and the Missionary Baptist Congress/Convention of Missouri.  For over 30 years, studied at the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education and their Convention, USA, Inc.  Charleszetta was the first contestant to represent Missouri in the Better Speakers Contest at the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. held in Jacksonville FL.  Over 5,000 people were present.  She also served as Executive Secretary to the Host Committee of the National Committee lead by the late Rev. McKinley Dukes, when the convention was held in Kansas City MO.


    Sunday School-student/teacher, Baptist Training Union, Women’s Missionary Union, Cheerful Helpers, Youth Fellowship, Board of Christian Education, Culinary staff, former Sheepfold Administrator and Music ministry have been service opportunities throughout the years.  The gift of administration comes from God, natured by family and church members.  Study and serve all you can, while you can- life goal.


    Charleszetta married Calvin W. Shelby in 1971. The have two children, Sharita RaShawn, MA Therapist in St. Louis MO and son Brandon DeWayne, Defensive Corners Coach at Indiana University, Bloomington. He and his wife Jennifer have a son, Kaysen DeWayne Shelby.

  • Audrey Davis
    Building & Grounds Superintendent

    Audrey T. Davis united with Friendship in 1965 and presently serves as the Superintendent of Building and Grounds. A native of Morrilton, Arkansas, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Arts from Arkansas (UAPB) AM&N College in 1964 and in 1969 a Master of Science, Industrial Technology from Central Missouri State University.


    His thirty-year career in the Kansas City Missouri School District has covered schools until his 1999 retirement. An active member of the National UAPB Alumni Association, he has served as past president of the Kansas Chapter. Among his hobbies are woodworking, fishing, boating and barbecuing.


    He has been married to Flossie Williams Davis for over fifty years and is the father of three and has several grandchildren.
