  • Pastor James Allen Terrance, Jr.
    Sr. Pastor

    Pastor James Allen Terrance Jr. has made it his mission to empower people to cultivate their God-given talents by developing and building a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. His vision for the people of God is clear: “Fulfilling the Great Commission by sharing the love of God in Christ Jesus with every person through Evangelism, Discipleship, Fellowship, Ministry and Worship. His passion for all people is demonstrated through outreach ministry and international mission trips to places like Haiti and Southeast Asia.

                              

    Pastor Terrance and his devoted wife, Prentice Adrian Horton Terrance have two beautiful children, Jalen Ashton and Tyler James. He holds a degree in Liberal Studies from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He also received his Master of Divinity Degree with Honors from Central Baptist Theological Seminary of Kansas and is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Divinity.

     

    In 2003, Pastor Terrance was led by the Spirit of God to begin a work for Christ in Kansas City, Missouri thereby becoming the seventh pastor of Friendship Baptist Church. Pastor Terrance is a humble servant of God, who preaches and teaches under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. He serves a vibrant, diverse and loving congregation which is experiencing significant growth by the move of the Spirit. The congregation supports extensive ministries and programs that reflect the holistic ministry of Jesus Christ aimed at validating and empowering those who have been marginalized by society. Friendship is passionate about reaching persons from all walks of life by continually striving to meet the needs of the Greater Kansas City community.

     

    For 12 years, Pastor Terrance has impacted lives across the Kansas City area and various other states through his powerful and anointing preaching and teaching the infallible Word of God. God has also blessed him to serve as a newspaper columnist in the Kansas City community. He is honored to be named among The Kansas City Globe's 100 Most Influential African-Americans. Pastor Terrance is a member of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc., the Kansas City Baptist Minister’s Union, the Urban League of Greater Kansas City, the NAACP and is a member of the Beason Divinity School Southeast Regional Bible Institute Advisory Group. He serves as an Instructor for the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Missouri, and the New Era Baptist District Association,

     

    He continues to serve God and others by sharing the Gospel message of restoration and reconciliation by the liberating power of Jesus Christ.

  • Minister Leatriana England
    Minister for Worship Leadership & Ministerial Discipleship Training

    Minister Leatriana England serves as the Minister for Worship Leadership & Ministerial Discipleship Training. She has served as a minister of the Gospel since 1997. Minister England was ordained in 2007 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Cornell Brown in East St. Louis, Missouri. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from Phoenix University. Minister England has functioned as the humble leader of the Ministerial staff since 2015 and provides planning and coordination of all worship experiences at Friendship Baptist Church.

     

    Leatriana is the proud mother of three awesome children. She enjoys spending time with her family. Her most proud accomplishment is that God has blessed her to exercise her gift of ministry in and out of the pulpit. Her enthusiastic worship and consistent commitment to the ministry uniquely positions her for effective leadership of staff ministers and congregants.

  • Minister Debra Sermons
    Minister of Christian Education

    Debra Sermons is Director of Recruitment at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Shawnee, Kansas. Currently, she serves as Minister of Christian Education and Adult Sunday School Teacher at Friendship Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Prior to joining Friendship Baptist Church, she served as Minister at Concord “Fortress of Hope” Church in Kansas City, Missouri. In active service to the Lord since youth, her adult ministry experience also includes Associate Minister of Spiritual Formation and Ministry Development, Summer Youth Employment Ministry Leader, Teen Bible Study Teacher, Deaconess Ministry, Women’s Retreat speaker, choir member, and finance ministry.

     

    Additionally, she has served as a Spiritual Director for the Heart of America Camino, Inc. (a three day Christian experience in an ecumenical context for Christians seeking closer relationship with God; and to renew their Christian commitment to God and the Church.) Spiritual Directors are clergy who serves as part of the Camino Weekend Team, alongside laywomen and laymen.

     

    Debra has over eighteen years professional experience in Human Resource Management in various positions, including Personnel Officer for the Governor of Georgia and Human Relations Officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections. Her career has also spanned the areas of banking and social services. Along the way she has been involved in various community activities, social organizations, school organizations, and children services.

     

    Reverend Sermons received a Master in Divinity degree from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Shawnee, Kansas; a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration and Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.

     

    While completing other coursework at Bethune-Cookman College, now Bethune-Cookman University, Reverend Sermons met and married her college sweetheart, Eddie Sermons. They are the proud parents of two adult sons, Xavier and Edmond, and one daughter, Erin, and have three grandchildren. She is a native Floridian, and resides with her family in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

     

    Reverend Sermons desires to serve in ways that provide meaningful, effective, and transformative ministry to individuals, the Church, the community, and bear witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ. She is honored to participate in the work God is doing in discipleship and leadership development within the Church and throughout the community.

  • Minister Howard Jackson
    Minister of Prayer and Visitation

    Howard L. Jackson Jr.  serves as the Minister of Prayer and Visitation. He is a Vietnam veteran of nearly 27 years with the United States Air Force.  During his tenure he received numerous commendations for excellent service including being awarded the Department of Defense Meritorious Medal. He is certified in Work Center Management by the United States Air Force Institute.  He's a graduate of two Leadership Academies with honors.  He has completed several courses in Biblical Studies through the World Bible School, and Bible Doctrine through the Heart of America Bible College.

     

    Rev. Jackson has been a member of Friendship Baptist Church for nearly 20 years and has been a licensed and ordained Minister of the Gospel for 15 years.  He also serves as a teacher of an Adult Sunday School Class.  He and his wife "Popi" of 50-plus years are the proud parents of two children, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

  • Deacon Joe Pickett
    Chairman of Deacons Ministry

    Joe Pickett serves as the Chairman of the Deacons Ministry since 2010 of the Friendship Baptist Church. He is native of Dumas, Arkansas. Joe has always been active in church and served in many capacities and ministries. His favorite scripture for this season of his life is Psalm 34:1 “I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

     

    Deacon Pickett has been a member of Friendship since 2006. He is a retired entrepreneur of Pickett Electrical Services for over 30 years and retired from Sears Robuck & Company. Joe is married to Cherise and they are the proud parents of a beautiful daughter. 

  • Anita Mauldin
    Chairman of Trustee Ministry

    Anita Mauldin serves as the first female Chairman of the Trustee Ministry for Friendship Baptist Church. She is a native of Earle, Arkansas and raised by her grandparents Rev. and Mrs. W. S. Booker, Anita joined the Friendship family in 1973 under Rev. I. H. Henderson, Jr.  During this time she served as teacher in the Young Adult Sunday School and Junior High Sunday School Departments, Superintendent in the Junior High Sunday School for 28 years, participated in the Voices of Praise and Chancel Choir, and Co-Chairman of Trustees.  One of her favorite sayings is "She who kneels before God can stand before anyone" 

     

    Anita is a retired educator with 38 years of experience in Middle and High School and has served in many leadership roles: Chairman of Social Studies Department, Chairman of Faculty Advisory Committee, a member of the Superintendent's Round Table and Union Representative.

     

    She attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and continued her education at Avila College where she received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science and a Master Degree in Arts of Education.

     

    Anita believes that family is very important. She has three siblings Catherine, Willie and Gwendolyn, and is the proud mother of one son James, Sr. (decease), grandmother of two grandsons James Jr. and Jalen. 

  • Rhonda Tigner
    Finance Chairman

    Rhonda Tigner serves as the Finance Chairperson at Friendship Baptist Church. She has been a member for over 27 years. Rhonda has worked in the banking/financial industry for the last 30 years. She is currently the Banking Center Manager for Bank of America. She is an active member of the KCMO Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. She is married to Deacon Alonzo Tigner and they have two daughters Alexis and Lauren.

  • Steve Scott
    Minister of Music

    Steve Scott serves as the Director of Church Music for the Friendship Baptist Church. He is an accomplished pianist/organist and music teacher in the greater Kansas City area.  Steve received his post-secondary education from the University of Missouri in Kansas City and Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas.  He specializes in playing and teaching gospel music, but is also very well versed in many other genres of music.  Steve has accompanied and traveled with many national gospel artists.

     

    For the past 38 years, Mr. Scott has been playing and serving in leadership roles in music ministry with 25 of those years in the role of Minister of Music for local congregations.  As the owner of a school of music in Kansas City, Kansas  since 1992, he has trained well over 1000 music students with skills and abilities to become active ministers of music or musicians for their congregation.  

     

    In his spare time, Mr. Keys, a nickname he has earned for his amazing talent on the piano, silently enjoys being a secret food critic of locally owned ethnic restaurants.  He enjoys tasting their diverse flavors and learning about their generations of traditions in cooking.  This allows his palate and heart to erase the divisions of the world enjoying each culture one bite at a time. 

  • Minister Robert Brooks
    Minister of Youth & Children's Ministries

    Robert Brooks and his family have been members of Friendship Baptist Church since 2008. He received his calling to the ministry in 2011 and was licensed in March 2015. Rev. Brooks serves as the Youth Minister where he has a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people. He has served in various other ministries prior to joining the youth department.

     

    Minister Brooks is married to Rosalyne and together they have two wonderful daughters, Ravyn and Rakayla. Minister Brooks and his wife are successful entrepreneurs of a Real Estate Investment Firm and Beauty Salon in the Greater Kansas City area for over 25 years. Together, they are very active in the community and are members of various chamber organizations and professional affiliations.

     

    Minister Brooks and his family have committed their lives to serving others, trusting in, and depending on the goodness and grace of GOD while sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ!!!

  • Gheia Turk
    Pastor's Secretary

    Gheia Turk serves as the Secretary to Pastor James A. Terrance Jr.  Gheia grew up in Greenwood Baptist Church and has been a member Friendship Baptist Church for 12 years.  She attended Missouri Western College and was employed by Commerce Bank and Bannister Bank and Trust after college.   Over the years, Gheia served in many capacities, including Junior Matron’s Leader, Marriage Ministry Coordinator, Social Media Administrator, assisted with various ministries and other administrative work as needed. Gheia is a leader with great passion and a growing commitment to Christ. 

     

    Gheia is married to Alan Turk and they are the parents of six chilldren. Gheia lives her life knowing and living by Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." 

  • Dawnn O'Bannon
    Church Secretary

    Dawnn C. O'Bannon has serves as the Church Secretary for the past 4 years providing administrative support to church ministries and the congregation. Blessed with a beautiful smile and a warm personality she offers assistance to the many ministries of Friendship Baptist Church.  Her pride and joy are her 3 beautiful children; being a mother is her greatest achievement.  She has a Bachelors of Art Degree in English from Avila University, and is actively pursuing her Masters of Art Degree in Human Resources Management.

  • Valera Jefferson
    Church Clerk

    Valera Jefferson has served as the Church Clerk for Friendship Baptist Church since 2009mand has been a member for twenty-one years. She is a Sumner High Alum, a graduate of the University of Kansas earning a B. S. in Education and a Masters in Curriculum Administration and  University Missouri Kansas City's completion of Language Arts Doctoral Hours.  Her life experiences include working 40 years as Public School Educator (retired), singing in the Ebony Chorale, being active in AKA Sorority, NAACP, P M Interlude Social/Civic Club, Sumner Alumni, YMCA and Neighborhood Association. She is the proud mother of one son.

  • Deborah Hogan
    Church Wedding Coordinator

    Deborah Hogan serves as the Wedding Coordinator for Friendship Baptist Church.  She is the Human Resources Manager for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), Kansas City.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Kansas City Boys Choir and the Kansas City Girls Choir.  She has served as Youth Mission Director and Youth Fellowship Director for New Era District Baptist Association, Youth Director Greenwood Baptist Church, Area One Young People Director for the Baptist State Convention of Missouri, and the Past President for the Black Achievers Society of Greater Kansas City.  She is also a community youth mentor for a cross-cultural group of developing young college students and graduates. 

     

    Deborah has two daughters Gheia and Tia and eight grandchildren. Her steadfast faith and professional experience has uniquely equipped her t be a blessing to others.  She gives God the glory in all of her opportunities and successes.
