But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. - Galatians 5:22-23
This time of year should be a time of grateful reflection on the wonderful Gift God has given to humanity; His only begotten son, Jesus Christ. It should also be a time to demonstrate a similar generosity in giving to others around us the gift of hope, peace, love and joy. However, what we experience all to often at this time of the year is financial woes, commercialism and debt.
This year as Christmas nears, think about ways to demonstrate extravagant generosity without adding to debt we already have. There are so many ways we can place a smile on someone's face. The fruit of spirit outlined in Galatians 5:22-23 invites us to discover, cultivate and demonstrate virtues that become the currency of our faith.
The value and worth of our Christian faith is felt most by the peace we make in this world, the love we show to others, patience we demonstrate in moments of anxiety, the kindness we exemplify to those we come in contact with, the faithfulness we model in the face of uncertainty and the self-control we display in volatile moments. Christian currency can be disbursed everyday in love letters and a thoughtful phone call.
May God give you His peace and show you how to become a peacemaker during this Advent season.
Prayer

May I grow in these things through the work of the Spirit within me. Let me be filled with your peace as I persevere through the wind and waves of life. May grace, mercy, and peace be with me, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Son, and from the Holy Spirit. Let me show it toward others every day. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
