Ephesians 6:11-13
New International Reader's Version
Put on all of God’s armor. Then you can remain strong against the devil’s evil plans. Our fight is not against human beings. It is against the rulers, the authorities and the powers of this dark world. It is against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly world. So put on all of God’s armor. Evil days will come. But you will be able to stand up to anything. And after you have done everything you can, you will still be standing.

We need to be aware of the real enemy. We need to recognize him when he shows up.  It often seems that the closer you get to God, the more Satan comes against you. But never forget, God has promised "Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world." This means that Christ in you is greater than Satan, who is in the world.

Unfortunately, people seem to attack one another vehemently and with little thought to who the real enemy is.  Especially within the household of faith. We hurt each other with both our words and our actions, when the real enemy moves about scot-free.

Today's text invites us to consider what "Spiritual warfare" really is and who the real enemy is. Our fight is not against human beings. It's a lesson we all need to learn. The enemy is attacking our life in terms of relationships in our family, on our job, in our community and even in our local congregation. So being hostile and mean spirited toward to one another is both misguided and immature. We may be misunderstood and wounded by the actions of others, but the real enemy behind this is Satan, the Devil our adversary and accuser and tempter.

Stop Attacking each other! Attack the real enemy through prayer, bible study, worship and by serving one another to the glory of God.

Dear Jesus,  I pray that You would fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Cover me with your protecting wings and keep me safe from harm and spiritual attacks.

Help me to speak only the words you would have me speak, do only the things you would have me do, and think only the thoughts you would have me think that I may please you. Remove bitterness, anger, revenge, unforgiveness and hate from my heart.

Help me to be a reflection of you so others will seek you as well. In Jesus name, Amen!
