And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp. - Numbers 11:1

Today as I stood outside at a local DMV in the cold hours of the morning, everything in me wanted to scream and shout with complaint. And just then, my eye caught an elderly woman being helped from her car. She could not walk and needed someone to place her in a special chair to be wheeled into the DMV that morning. In addition to this , she was blind. In that moment, I was convicted like never before to learn how to be grateful and respond to adversity and challenge with thanksgiving knowing that God has promised to be with me.

The song that the late Rev. Clay Evans used to sing came to mind and I've been humming it since this morning. It goes like this:

If you want to see a miracle,
all you gotta do is (just look at me).
I've been blessed, I've been kept by goodness and mercy,
right now I've got (the victory).
So before you start to complain,
count your blessings, you'll be amazed,
I won't complain (I won't complain, I'm blessed).

We live in challenging times indeed. But there were those before us who knew worst than COVID-19 or political unrest. As believers we are always challenged to do less complaining and more celebrating. Our celebration is grounded in the realities of God's promise and presence in our life, not the absence of struggles or storms.

So think about it today, what is your mouth filled with ? Praise or Complaint? As for me... I won't complain, I'm blessed!

Gracious, Good and Generous God. I love you and praise you for who you are and what you are doing in me and around me. I worship you for goodness and your mercy. I thank you for your presence and power in my life, especially when I'm at my weakest moment. I love you. Please let your love be seen and heard in me always. Forgive me for my complaint and ungratefulness. Wash me through and through. I want to be more like you. I honor you and praise you and thank you and I am nothing without you. I bless your name. In the name of Jesus, Amen
