"The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:5b-7 (NIV)

The Coronavirus Pandemic is frightening there is no doubt about that. We have so many questions and so many confusing and contradictory responses. In the midst of this crisis our communities often respond in fear and anxiety, as we are witnessing in supermarkets across the nation. To be clear this is a major situation.

However, remember that the One we worship is Mighty! God is able and available at all times. Be encouraged during this time of great uncertainty in knowing that the Lord is near. And because the Lord is near, we don't have to be anxious. We have the assurance of His soothing presence. It's His presence plus His promise that can chase away our anxious thoughts.

Three steps that may help you during moments of anxiety and fear.

1. Pray Honestly - honestly tell God what you're afraid of and ask Him to help you to overcome that fear and not live in that fear. Pray for His protection and assurance.

2. Read God's Word - Be intentional about reading those passages that encourage your heart and mind against fear. Start a devotion that is centered on guarding your heart and mind. Hide God's Truth into your heart and arm yourself with the most powerful tool available - His Word!

3. Verbalize Your Trust in Him - Speak the Word! Quote the Scriptures you've memorized on dealing with fear. Quote the verse slowly and intentionally, to claim the truths contained within, and to verbalize your  belief in God out loud.

We can be convinced that the more we fill our minds with God's Word, the more crowded out our fears will become.

Eternal God, Our Father,

Thank You for the promise that You are near. We are so grateful that we can give all of our fears over to You.  Comfort those who are in sorrow, strengthen those who are made weak by sickness and fear and give discernment and courage to those who are responsible for leadership.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.
