You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. - Isaiah 26:3
We all have those moments when life presents what seems to be more than we can bear. Like falling dominos, one adverse situation after the next befalls us. In physical, emotional and spiritual exhaustion we cry out in despair. It is a common human experience, but what is uncommon is to experience peace in the midst of the storm. This is the promise of the Isaiah text to those who place their faith in God.
It seems oxymoronic to suggest that a person can have peace in moments of turmoil, but this is the promise of the text. God will keep him in perfect peace... That means God will guard, protect, maintain and preserve His people even in moments of extreme pressure. The key to the promise in the text is in our thought life. Where is our mind? What things occupy our thought life? The text invites us to frame our thought life by intentionally focusing on God and His trustworthiness.
In Joyce Meyer's book, "Battlefield of the Mind" she states the following, "Our past may explain why we're suffering but we must not use it as an excuse to stay in bondage.” The challenge in life is getting our mind focused on God and His promises to us.
We can rejoice in knowing our peace does not depend on our present situation, but rather our powerful God. “You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind.”- Joyce Meyer
Read Psalm 16 today and reflect on God as your provider and protector. And do all you can to walk in God's presence daily.
