I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. - Psalm 122:1-2

There is nothing more exhilarating and life giving than authentic God centered worship! Community Worship that recognizes God as both object and subject which releases individuals to forget about themselves and focus in on God's amazing grace and goodness. This is the spirit of Christmas and the fundamental experience of real Christian worship.

The season of Advent is a season of Hope, Joy, Peace and Love. It invites us to consider the First Advent and our need to continue God's work until the Second Advent. This is a time of year to reflect upon God's love for us and our worshipful response to Him. Our worship of God is both delight and duty.

Psalm 122 is one of the Psalms pilgrims would sing on their way to and upon arrival in Jerusalem for the great festivals of Passover, Unleavened Bread, and Tabernacles. It was decreed that they make these annual pilgrimages. This was both duty and delight. There is a gladness in the hearts of those pilgrims in anticipation of community worship.

Consider the attitude you bring when it comes to community worship. Is there any gladness or joy in your heart? Is there any hopefulness or faith in your worship?

We can picture the physicality of this Psalm. “Our feet have been standing within your gates.” Imagine your feet, touching the ground, dusty, weary, arthritic, callused, but within those gates, visible in renovated form to tourists today. The act of walking is worshipful obedience; we should ponder our feet having gotten us there. Or perhaps the words of Mother Pollard, an elderly woman, refusing the offer of a ride during the Montgomery bus boycott: “My feets is tired, but my heart is rested.” (Howell.J - Preaching this week)

Consider how God has allowed you to get to His house of worship , one more time. Let the words of psalm 122 become an encouragement to you during this time of year. Give God your best in worship and be thankful unto Him and Bless His Holy name! For the Lord is good! His mercy endures forever!
