And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. - Mark 1:35
This prayerful moment in the life of Jesus is placed prominently at an early point in the Gospel narrative set down by John Mark. The prominence of this prayerful moment may suggest the priority of the moment. We do not pray as we should.
We are often negligent when it comes to the care of self and the soul. Jesus communicates through his actions the importance of creating sacred space and discovering and keeping our sacred pace.
Too often our rendezvous with God are limited to very brief sunday morning moments. But the creation of sacred space is a matter of mind, heart, purpose and passion. Sacred space is nurtured apart from the steeple and pew. It is that moment of connection with God and examination of self.
Jesus not only reminds us of the one appointment that must be kept (God), He also models for us the need to know your pace and purpose. To remember that the Christian race is long and tedious. Our pace keeps us fresh and faithful. It prevents unnecessary burnout. Remember, Ministry does not cause burnout, ministry without the Lord does.
Make your daily appointment with God a priority, and discover God's sacred pace for you.
