The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.  - Psalm 27:1-3

Do you have confidence in God? Are you living with confidence or walking in fear and anxiety?

In the first division of psalm 27, King David speaks of his confidence in the Lord. He speaks as one who has experienced both success and failure, victory and defeat; yet he lives with enthusiasm and confidence. His confidence is not in His power or position as King, but rather in his relationship with God. He begins with, "The Lord is ..." This is the basis for His confidence. Not his royalty or positon as King, but rather his relationship with the Lord of Hosts. David believes that God real. Not a creation of fantastic human imagination. For David God is real. He believes –He knows—there is a God, and since there is a God there must therefore be answers to life. He has confidence in God.

Often we find ourselves worshiping more out of obligation and routine than out of desire and love. Our praise seems most exuberant on Sunday, sitting on padded pews in air conditioned Sanctuaries, than when we face the difficulties and vicissitudes of life. Having confidence in God means trusting Him daily no matter what. Believing that God is able and available.

Then the psalmist used an interesting personal adjective; The Lord is my… an adjective that means relating to me. David not only believes in the existence of God, but he believes he has a personal connection with God.

Friends whatever you face in this life, know that if you have a connection with God you do not face it alone. The bible says that we walk by faith and not by sight. It is our connection with God...our intimate relationship with God,...our fellowship with God that gives us confidence.

As a Christian God wants us to live with confidence in Him. He can do what no other power can do!
