“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." - Matthew 7:24-27

Almost everyone has heard the biblical story of the wise and the foolish builder. The moral of the story is that one ought to be careful as to what his life is built and/or based upon. We need something solid in this life that will give us support when the storm comes. This is a good application of the text.

However, after listening to the Reverend Dr. Mary Moss tonight at our Healthy Church Conference 2015. I was struck by another application of the text. Dr Moss spoke powerfully and persuasively about building our love for God. Well, it stands to reason that building our love for God is futile if it is not put into practice. I think this might be a better application of the text. The wise builder is the one that hears God's word and then is determined to do God's word.

Wisdom then, is not knowing a formula or facts. Wisdom is puting into practice what God has said in His word. Workshops are good and helpful, but a workshop is useless if we don't intend to put into practice what we learn.

The Matthew text does not stop at verse 27 it goes on to say that the storms came. You can count on adversity and trouble in this life. But the good news is that when you have heard the gospel message and you have a determination to practice the gopsel; the storms are no match!

So I'm encouraged tonight to do all I can to live out the gospel. By the way, sometimes doing all I can is in reality  loving God with all I've got.

Be blessed ....and keep building your life upon  the solid foundation.
