A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. -Proverbs 11:25
In a culture of hyper competitiveness, self absorption and greed, the scriptures encourage us to demonstrate humility and concern for one another. Our desire for prosperity must be inextricably the result of a kind of discipleship that seeks to glorify God.
When we seek to honor God and bless others; God has a way of sending to us "times of refreshment" or renewal. Some have called it "the law of reciprocity". Ultimately what we send out comes back to us.
This pithy proverb simple reminds us that prosperity is related to generosity. When we seek to bless others we in turn are blessed. The world today could benefit greatly from this timeless principle.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You formed me in my mother’s womb. You know my frame and how weak I am. I am prone to only think about myself; that is my nature. Yet, You have a higher way of living- a life of selflessness and servanthood. Holy Spirit, convict my heart when I begin to think more highly of myself than I should and empower me to put others above myself. I lean upon Your strength in the midst of my selfish weakness and trust that You are working in my heart to change me, and shape me, and transform me so that I might look more like Christ. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
