Luke 5:12-13 (NIV)
While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.
God continues to have healing power even today. Human suffering and sickness remain a part of this fallen world we live in, but we have the promise of a new heaven and a new earth, and that God will wipe away all of our tears. Our healing and hope come according to God's will and in God's own time. We are invited to trust Him for daily bread knowing that He can and will provide.
Luke says that when this man saw Jesus he fell prostrate, worshiped and prayed. Jesus responded, healed him and the man's life would never be the same. We should pray that God would give us sensitive and compassionate hearts towards those suffering and offer prayers for the sick. The text assures us that God is willing to heal and deliver us.
Consider how much he loves us. Remember the words of that beautiful hymn. "I don't know why Jesus loved me. I don't know why He cared. I don't know why He sacrificed His life. Oh, but I'm glad, so glad He did."
God is willing to heal and love you. Are you willing to love him back?
