One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?” - John 6:8-9 ESV

This particular biblical text is a favorite of mine. It reminds me of God's inexhaustible power to provide using my limited resources. Most of us often find ourselves overwhelmed by responsibilities or challenged with problems for which we do not have answers or resources to solve. We make plans and things don't go as planned!  I've learned that this is simply a part of life. We will all face challenges.

But in this pericope there is a never ending message of encouragement, "Put it in God's Hand". The challenge in the text is overwhelming; over 5,000 hungry people need to be fed. The resources are limited, Phillip offers the sarcastic remark that if they had over half a year's wages there still would not be enough for everyone to take a bite! I love this text, because it sounds like most of us. We often assume the worst when faced with a challenge. We panic, stress and go into the mode of blaming others.

But the amazing truth in the  text is that God uses unlikely people with meager resources to perform incredible miracles! "There is a boy here"... and with those words and the boy's lunch in His hands, Jesus feeds 5,000! Every need is met, no one leaves hungry, through the generosity and trust of a little boy!

Imagine the possibilities for you and I!  Little becomes much when placed in the Lord's hand! Whatever the problem, put it all in God's hand and trust Him.
